The benefit of the project is that it has shown the interaction of soil wettability and crop nutrition is not worthy of an expensive research project in its own right, but that the two components of the interaction are worthy of follow up and far more detailed investigation... There is also a need to promote early vigour in seedlings on these soils so that root exploration is stimulated to a level where advantage is taken of the high levels of soil test available phosphorus... There is a need for further research into the nature and management of both the non-wettability problem and the high crop responses to P fertiliser at high soil P status problem...
