The National Mungbean Improvement Program (NMIP) has delivered immediate productivity and profitability gains to Northern Region growers and set the foundation to deliver the next generation of varieties that will increase crop reliability and grower confidence... From the foundation, NMIP will develop the next generation of mungbean varieties which combine productivity gains, yield stability and specific adaptation to regional and irrigated production to further increase grower confidence and adoption of mungbeans... Two hundred and sixty new lines developed in this project were evaluated in Stage 1 yield trials at Biloela, Hermitage and Narrabri in 2007/08...

Maximise yield with protein knowledge.. Protein testing grain sorghum at harvest should be routine practice if growers want to maximise the profitability of their crops... According to the Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), grain sorghum protein levels (at 13.5 percent moisture) of less than 9pc indicates acute nitrogen deficiency, 9-10pc indicates marginal nitrogen deficiency while levels above 10pc suggest that nitrogen is adequate and not adversely impacting yield...
