The aim of the project was to investigate the use of compost as a partial substitute for synthetic phosphorus (P) fertilisers in Vietnam... Results of the project indicated that the use of compost as a substitute for synthetic P fertiliser is a viable solution to the predicted increases in demand and cost of mined P fertiliser... While glasshouse results showed that synthetic fertilisers are able to be substituted with compost, a nutritionally balanced field trial which uses more appropriate sampling times, as well as a collection of plant tissue samples, is proposed as an area for further research...

Southern and central New South Wales grains advisers and growers are encouraged to attend workshops to improve management of problem weeds for enhanced cropping options and profits... The workshops in March will enable participants to discuss their weed management experiences with peers and industry experts and will assist in the development of strategies for tackling problem paddocks and particular weeds... In summary, 20 trials have now recently been undertaken across a number of seasons and locations in NSW. None of them have demonstrated S responses in yield or oil %. This does not exclude deficiency and yield penalties from occurring but does highlight that the frequency and the likelihood is not high... Delaying any action that has the potential to cease grain fill will see more seeds achieve their maximum size and improve yield... In summary there was no 'concerning' level of seed loss observed at any trial or timing, correlating well with the yield data...
