The document and supporting documents and discussions with APVMA explain that a key approach to labelling application options for reducing spray drift exposure risk and the size of associated no-spray buffer zones was the consideration of nozzle selection and use for obtaining target emission droplet size spectra in size categories described by ASAE standard S572 (ASAE, 1999)... The size of the no-spray buffer zones would depend on 1) the drift exposure risk and 2) the active ingredient product toxicity "level of concern" for specific sensitive areas... Within the last month, APVMA, through consultation with The University of Queensland (UQ), GRDC, pesticide registrants and others has issued notice that it is keen to introduce more choice in regulations through a new Drift Reduction Technology (DRT) scheme - see www.apvma.gov.au/drt...

In summary, 20 trials have now recently been undertaken across a number of seasons and locations in NSW. None of them have demonstrated S responses in yield or oil %. This does not exclude deficiency and yield penalties from occurring but does highlight that the frequency and the likelihood is not high... In summary, using Yield Prophet as a way of increasing soil water knowledge is more difficult to trial than probes... In summary, the growth in the use of probes to understand soil water is easily explained using the framework above...

WA grower's yield app wins Grain Inventors competition.. "My primary motivation for developing the app is not to generate profits, but to make available to the wider industry a tool that can improve the viability of Australian farm businesses and make a profound difference to the way our major input decisions are made.".. "We have saved literally hundreds of thousands of dollars over a number of below average seasons, purely through informed rational decisions that were made at a time when the crops were looking a million dollars," Mr Fels said...

Actual probabilities of weediness in an operational setting were found to be much lower than would be expected based on the performance of the WRA against test data containing a high proportion of weeds, and uncertainty around classifications was high... The methods presented have wider application to the quantitative prediction of invasive species for situations where the base-rate probability of invasiveness is subject to uncertainty, and the accuracy of the screening test is imperfect... Statistical modelling was used to estimate the base proportion of introduced alien plants that will naturalise at some stage in the future, and determined the distribution of times until naturalisation for these plants...

The discovery of a gene that controls the way plants respond to drought could help lead researchers to the "holy grail" for many farmers: a new drought-tolerant, high-performing line of wheat... Researchers at the ARC Centre of Plant Energy Biology, Australian National University, made the significant discovery several years ago of a protein that controls the amount of a signal between chloroplast and nucleus of a plant that regulates its response to drought... Arun Yadav, who works with Prof. Pogson, discovered that wheat plants have up to seven copies of the gene, and each may have slightly different functions related to drought tolerance and the production of the signal in different parts of the plant, like roots, seeds or leaves...

I initially applied to Nuffield as a direct result of moving between two different farms and finding that I had to re-apply all my knowledge to areas that were initially simple to me... The key findings suggest that northern Australia is unique and quite different to most other parts of the world when this topic is examined... Partly because of this we tend to concentrate on farming the more fertile heavier clay based soils that hold moisture better, and then machine trafficability becomes an issue during the wet periods...
