Time is right to fight flaxleaf fleabane.. "When treated young, at one month or less, susceptible flaxleaf fleabane plants in fallow can be controlled with glyphosate quite often a glyphosate mixture or double knock is required for optimal control," Dr Widderick said... For rosette control in fallows Dr Widderick said the most consistently effective treatments were double-knocks (sequential application), particularly with glyphosate and Tordon 75-D followed seven days later with Spray...

Early control thwarts fleabane.. Tony Cook, NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) weeds technical specialist based at Tamworth says prevention is better than cure when it comes to controlling fleabane and he recommends pre-emergent or seedling management... Mr Cook says fleabane has spread largely because it thrives in the no-till farming system due to its surface-germinating seed which, under this system, lies undisturbed by tillage or soil coverage...

Weed management authorities, with support from the Grains Research and Development Authority (GRDC), say the best form of defence against fleabane is an integrated approach combining the use of competitive crops and pastures, grazing, herbicides, cultivation and targeting weeds at the vulnerable stages of their lifecycle... Mr Minehan said it was necessary to enlist additional forms of control, and regardless of the measures used, targeting weeds when young and actively growing was the factor most critical to effective management... Target young, small weeds (seedlings and young rosettes); herbicide efficacy decreases as flaxleaf fleabane matures... Widespread use of glyphosate in both agricultural and non-agricultural sectors has caused glyphosate resistance in this weed...
