" Soil Acidity and pH Management for Central West Farming Districts.. Central West Farming Systems (CWFS) has identified (Acid soil action initiative, 2000) that the growing incidence, in certain districts, of low pH in the surface (0-10cm) and subsoil (10-30 cm) as a long term trend will limit crop yield in particular districts of low rainfall areas... Current and future decision support tools regarding lime application developed for irrigation and high to safer medium rainfall production regions will not produce management change in marginal medium to low rainfall districts as they fail to address the risk management focus of these lower yield expectation producers ( Mudge 2011)...

Growers pick up irrigation research.. Dr Fettell says cotton growers, for example, may need quick-growing varieties that can be planted in June, while those targeting more than 5t/ha may be better off using longer-season varieties, and growers targeting yields of 4t/ha to 5t/ha with limited irrigation may be able to grow typical spring wheats... "Crown rot works by stopping water flow when plants are under stress, so under irrigation the typical symptom of white heads can be hidden," Dr Fettell says...
