Reductions to grain yield and quality occurred where these diseases were not managed... Growers in the Western District of Victoria should have a plan to manage this disease by avoiding susceptible cultivars, avoiding early sowing and using seed and/or foliar applied fungicides to suppress this disease where needed... Inoculum levels for spot form of net blotch will be high going into the 2011 growing season and will require active management...

There are no simple short cuts for storing grain safely... If insects are detected as grain is out-loaded for sale, treatment is likely to delay the delivery by two to four weeks... Methods that aim to prevent infestations, including those listed as best practices in Table 2, are: cooling grain with aeration treating grain by spraying with residual chemicals treating grain by mixing amorphous silica powder...

Brendan (left) and John Pattison grew PBA RanaA faba beans for the first time in 2014 on their Marrar, New South Wales, farm... John Pattison is keen to expand the area sown to faba beans this year after growing the crop for the first time last year on his family's Marrar, New South Wales, farm... Soil moisture was excellent so the faba beans were inoculated at a heavy rate and planted 45 millimetres deep at 120 kilograms/ha across 36ha on 22 April...

Nutrient rates used are 40 kg P (MAP or a fluid source), 200 kg K (SOP or MOP), and 40-80 kg S (SOA or ATS), with the high application rates designed to allow impacts to be followed through an extended crop rotation... Urea was applied to either balance the N application from MAP, SOA, ATS or applied at a rate to make N non-limiting... All are intended to be evaluated over a series of crops at each site, rather than one-off snap-shots, helping us to understand the residual value of fertilizers applied in northern soils and climates...

Our aim was to investigate the interaction of nitrogen and fungicide in the control of yellow spot in wheat varieties of varying yellow spot resistance... The results of the trial suggest that nitrogen and fungicide are each effective on their own, and also in combination, for managing leaf spot diseases on susceptible wheat varieties... Nitrogen application increases the vigour of wheat plants and number of tillers and can increase yield and may allow for fungicide application to be more effective, particularly on susceptible wheat varieties...
