Not all business can be conducted online and the importance of strong customer relationships and regional networks cannot be overlooked... Prior to the growth of online share trading systems in the late 1990's, traditional share brokerage ranged between 2% and 3% of the value of the shares being traded... Although the sample is relatively small and those surveyed already considered "technologically progressive" (due to their membership with an online price reporting service), the results do suggest an appetite for online transacting, with 40% of respondents having nominated grain using the DailyGrain online platform, 27% responding that they were interested in doing so and 72% indicating they were interested in transacting via the app...

The areas of potential growth in consumption and where demand growth is likely as incomes grow are countries like India, China, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam and Philippines where the levels of consumption are relatively low and there are good prospects for income growth and the substitution of wheat for rice... Indonesia is Australia's largest wheat importer by more than a factor of two but Italy, Sudan and Japan have the highest unit values among our export destinations (Italy imports mainly durum) (Figures 15 and 16)... The paper is based on analyses of the world wheat market carried out for a project funded jointly by the Grain Growers Association and the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries entitled "What the World Wants from Australian Wheat"...
