Why Weeds are necessary for Regeneration The main difference between "sustainability" and "regeneration" I believe is that most country is in dire need of vast improvement and having a mentality that sustainability or "protection" is good enough throws up two unfortunate blockages, particularly in the rangelands... If we can progress past this blockage than the alternative is for us to have "an abundance mentality" and create a positive situation where we produce far more than we could before by using different principles and attitude"... Outcomes: By using innovative principles of land and animal management and by continuing to learn and develop synergistic enterprises I am buoyed by the opportunity and potential we have to focus on improvements in all facets of our management from ecology, economy and social / community development in rural areas...

Lou and Charlie Clemson made some quick decisions following a frost event on their Ardlethan property in July 2014... "We had a small four-day window once it was cut to make a decision," Charlie says, "so we decided to bale 80ha and stock 80ha... Charlie says, "you've got to make decisions that are dictated by the season and be able to adjust like that."..

Losses from leaf rust can be reduced by grazing or cutting rusted crops before the disease becomes severe... Adjust the intensity of grazing to avoid the extremes where the crop is either eaten into the ground, or becomes rank and prematurely runs to head... Avoid grazing the crop when the soil is very wet as the crown and root will be damaged and regrowth will be slow and reduced...

I liked the system for its simplicity, as it would take very little to change a conventional system to enable the integration of livestock... The system provides a more secure income for the farmer and better ground cover for the soil and the subsequent crop, as well as the much required feed for that time of year... The system produces three individual businesses with new opportunities...

Products may be identified by proprietary or trade names to help readers identify particular types of products but this is not, and is not intended to be, an endorsement or recommendation of any product or manufacturer referred to... As we improved the fencing we were able to manipulate and control the grazing, using mobs of between 3,000-12,000 goats in paddocks that ranged in size from 1200-4000 hectares keeping them there while they were browsing on the thick woody plants and moving them out when they started to graze the ground cover... When their movements are constrained by fencing, goats utilise their capacity to consume a wide spectrum of the vegetation on offer and unless adequate and effective rest from grazing is provided, land degradation will occur as illustrated in Figure 7...

But I believe my mind was sufficiently open to face the reality of what I was to investigate and the principle that we could adapt if there is the need to change Distance usually prevents Australian producers involved in the Livestock export trade a full appreciation of all fundamentals steering the future direction of their industry and individual businesses... There is also a demand for the direct purchase of live animals particularly in the Muslim festivals... The factors strongly indicate there will always be a demand for the supply of live animals to the many nations without the capacity to produce livestock themselves...
