Author : Bill Gordon, Bill Gordon Consulting Pty Ltd "Bigger Sprayers and Bigger Droplets".. Applicators and advisors need to be able to identify when application has contributed to reduced efficacy and be able to modify the application technique when required... I believe all advisors should provide a short report on spray results to follow-up all recommendations, which indicates if an application or control issue has been identified, and how that may be remedied and prevented in the future...

Grain growers in the southern cropping region are being advised that they can take action to improve weed control in wheel tracks during summer fallow spraying... A Weed Control in Wheel Tracks Fact Sheet , produced by the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), details measures that can reduce poor control of weeds in the sprayer's wheel tracks and adjacent areas during summer fallow applications... Lack of weed control in these areas can be the result of poor spray deposition, excessive dust or a combination of the two...

Jamie Grant has developed a machine to renovate the wheel tracks on his property near Jimbour, Queensland... Queensland grower Jamie Grant has developed a novel scraper using two 900-millimetre-wide buckets to renovate the wheel tracks on his controlled-traffic farm near Jimbour... To renovate the wheel tracks, Jamie decided he wanted to use two small drag buckets the width of each wheel track (900mm) to scrape soil off the peaks and fill the troughs that had been hollowed out as machinery trafficked wet spots...

New survey-based research indicates that adoption of controlled traffic farming (CTF) in Australian grain operations is limited by low understanding of its basic principles and how they work as part of an integrated system... Of the 222 grain growers surveyed in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, just 33 were matching the widths of their machinery to three-metre permanent wheel tracks for all their operations with harvesters, tractors, sprayers and spreaders... "About 34 per cent of growers reported that they used permanent wheel tracks, but many of these were not matching the widths of all their machinery because they used 2m wheel tracks, in addition to 3m wheel tracks...
