NVT makes crop selection easy for growers.. Neale Sutton, of Australian Crop Accreditation System Limited, which manages the NVT program, said the majority of the 2014 trial results had been uploaded to the NVT website www.nvtonline.com.au enabling growers to access all crop specific information including trial data, sowing guides, End Point Royalty and trial locations... "NVT generates independent information for growers about newly-released varieties of winter field crops, relative to current commercial varieties grown in their area," Mr Sutton said...

Making Better Fertiliser Decisions for Cropping Systems in Australia (BFDC) has established a searchable online repository of historic fertiliser response trials for nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K) and sulphur (S) use in cereals, oilseeds and pulses... The BFDC national database contains more than 4,700 fertiliser response trials (5,500 treatment series), conducted at 2,700 sites since the 1960s... The evaluation scored across five categories including Project Management, Value to Individual/- Organisation, Improved Industry Operations, Progress and Impact, Overall Rating...

Since the early 1960's, many thousands of fertiliser trials (soil test-crop response trials) with accompanied soil test values have been conducted for cereals, pulses and oilseeds across Australia using nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K) and sulphur (S)... Nationally almost all of the phosphorus trials have been conducted with a Colwell P soil test, while a relatively small proportion of these trials also have one or more additional soil test methods for phosphorus... The critical 90% RY calibration result indicated for this selection of 206 trials is statistically calculated as 20 mg/kg of Colwell P. The critical range, given in brackets as 18-22 mg/kg, provides advisors with the likely range of soil test values associated with nutrient responsiveness...

Despite the expense, fertiliser decisions made by grain growers do not always rely on soil test knowledge as part of a suite of knowledge sources contributing to a rate recommendation... This reflects a significant level of scepticism among some grain growers and advisors that soil testing does not explain crop response, that the recommendations provided using a soil test are flawed due to biased data, or both... The data were stored in a single central repository for access by approved users through an online query tool, the BFDC Interrogator...

Author : Sharon Watt Data from thousands of Australian on-farm grains research trials is being collated into a central, easy-to-access information resource for growers, agronomists, researchers and the wider grains industry... Project leader Robert Milne says around 3000 trial projects have so far been published on the OFT site, with data supplied by grower groups from across the nation... "The development and release of the OFT website provides an exciting new way to make findings and discover information from cropping trials conducted throughout Australia," Mr Milne said...
