The project will link and integrate with another project on non-wetting soils 'Delivering agronomic strategies for water repellent soils in Western Australia' led by Dr Stephen Davies at DAFWA... The main focus of this project "Novel solutions for managing non-wetting soils", is to explore managements that promote water infiltration into non-wetting soils and increase crop production and profitability... At the beginning of the project a review will be done of current knowledge on strategies to manage non-wetting soils, including published research reports, grower knowledge and unpublished DAFWA reports...

Rather than buying a spader immediately, Damian set up a water repellence amelioration trial in collaboration with Dr Stephen Davies from the Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia... It was enough to give Damian the confidence to expand his spading program and buy his own machine - a four-metre Farmax , capable of mixing the soil to a depth of 300 to 400mm...
