soil carbon

Catalogue: GRDC Media
The workshop, supported by the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), will enable local grain growers to receive expert commentary on the quality of their soils... To be held on August 28 at the Ramblers Football Club, Cummins, the workshop will introduce growers and consultants to the National Soil Quality Monitoring Program, which is funded by the GRDC through its Soil Biology Initiative II (SBI II)... The SBI II program has been able to link with sites being assessed for soil carbon as part of the Soil Carbon Research Program (SCaRP) which is managed by CSIRO and funded by GRDC and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF)...

Catalogue: GRDC 2014 Research Summaries
The research will compare the use of two different approaches to sample and measure management induced changes in soil carbon stores... We will compare the use of conventional sampling methods, which are based on bulking and laboratory analysis, with a new approach that uses a combination of soil sensing technologies... The new sensor-based approach will help to improve the characterisation of the spatial variability of agricultural soil to depth, leading to a better understanding of soil organic carbon and its effects on nutrient cycling, structural stability and ensuing effects on water retention and infiltration...
