" Managing soil microorganisms to unlock the P bank in soil: Taking back what.. Much of the remaining fertiliser P becomes fixed in soil and the P 'bank' in Australian arable soils is estimated to be worth $10 billion, or 100 kg P/ha of arable land (Cornish 2009)... The Australian grains industry needs new strategies to increase plant access to fixed P in soil that don "t compromise productivity, income or soil fertility Let "s take back what "s ours! This project will identify practical agronomic strategies allowing grain growers to pro-actively manage microbial release of fixed P and P uptake by grain crops...

" Assessing management options for enhanced soil phosphorus availability using rotations.. The proposed work aims to identify if there are rotation options that can provide an agronomic management solution for the release of fixed P in a range of soils across the grain growing regions of Australia... If the outcomes of this proposed project demonstrate the potential for growers to unlock 1% of the P bank annually by rotation management this would be equivalent to release of $50-100 million worth of fertiliser P (about 10% of the current annual investment of $1.4 billion in P application to grains in Australia)...
