Foliar fungicide applications at or prior to first node stage (Z31) can be effective at controlling leaf spot diseases in susceptible wheat varieties under high disease pressure... Necrotic leaf area was determined on top 3 to 4 leaves (on 15 tillers /plot) from all plots at Z15, Z25, Z31, Z39, Z55 (i.e. before each foliar fungicide spray) and Z72, or in the case of opportunistic trials assessed at regular intervals after trial establishment... The in-furrow fungicides tested show promise for leaf spot disease control and in the future they may become an alternative to foliar applications, for the control of early season leaf spot infections...

"Results from the project suggest that trying to increase wheat protein with late foliar N application is unlikely to be a very effective management tool in areas where spring rainfall is highly erratic," he said... Although the late foliar application of N can deliver significant increases in protein, it is unlikely to deliver an economic benefit unless grain N recovery rates are high, untreated protein levels are close to a receival grade threshold and the premium between receival grades is at least $20/t," he said... "In terms of application, multiple low rate application in the 2014 trials did not appear to improve the response compared to the same rate applied in one application...

High levels of yellow spot or stagonospora (septoria) nodorum blotch before flag leaf emergence can reduce plant growth and ultimately the yield of susceptible wheat varieties... Our research aims were to determine if foliar fungicide application prior to stem extension can be valuable for controlling early infection and, more importantly, profitable by giving a yield benefit across a range of environments... DAFF disclaims all responsibility and all liability (including without limitation liability in negligence) for all expenses, losses, damages and costs you might incur as a result of relying upon it... Overseas research shows that microbes may have built up in some soils to a point where residual breakdown is measured in days instead of weeks for certain target weeds... The information and data presented in this document represent the cumulative R&D outputs of current and past GRDC and DAFF Qld funded projects, beginning with a grass weeds research project (led by V. Osten) focussing on FTR in 2003 and culminating with the CQ Grower Solutions project that started in 2011...

Disease data was assessed at each application timing and finally ~3-4 weeks after the T3 application... Figure 2 shows the performance of the range of fungicide treatments when applied at T2 (GS32-33) on disease levels assessed at GS75-83 (milk to soft dough)... The very early T1 application (~GS15) provided useful initial disease suppression but had negligible impact on the final disease levels assessed at the late milk to early dough stages...
