The benefits improve crop health and crop competitive ability against weeds and the effectiveness of pre-emergent herbicides... When used as a post-emergent product, little of the herbicide gets to the roots and the control of established weeds is often very poor... benefits arise when the weed is prevented from setting seed as there are no increases to the seedbank and, as a consequence, fewer weeds in the future...

Project No.: DAW 672 Paper reviewed by: David Minkey and Abul Hashem Crop Updates is a partnership between the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia and the Grains Research & Development Corporation 20.. The negative impact of Raptor and Spinnaker on herbage production observed in the 4 advanced breeding lines (Crop Updates 2004) was not reflected as lower seed set... Overall, 2,4-D and Gramoxone were the most damaging to legume seed production; this reflected the impact of these treatments on herbage production (Crop Updates 2004)...

Inter-row weed control in wide row lupin using knockdown-based tank mixes Dr Abul Hashem 1, Ray Fulwood 2and Chris Roberts 3, 1Senior Research Officer, Department of Agriculture and Food, Northam, 2Farmer, Meckering, WA, 3Technical Officer, Department of Agriculture and Food, Northam.. Weed dry matter was reduced (Figure 2) but due to the dry season, only marginal increases in lupin yields compared to the broadcast treatments were realised due to the likely competition for water... Enhancing the depletion of the existing seedbank is just as important as controlling seasonal seed set...

Monitoring record sheets should show the following: numbers and types of insects found (including details of adults and immature stages) size of insects - this is particularly important for larvae date and time crop stage and any other relevant information (e.g. row spacings, weather conditions, and general crop observations)... Use the datasheets to record type, number and size of insects found on the beat sheet... Insect counts in crops with row spacing less than one metre must be converted to pests/m 2 ...

UNFS trial manager and upper-north grower Matt McCallum says trials in SA from 2004 to 2007 showed that wheat-on-wheat sown on the inter-row could increase yield by an average of six per cent compared with on-the-row... "Effective inter-row sowing can boost crop yields by reducing disease, improving plant establishment, creating more effective weed control and establishing a better microclimate for seedlings," he says... "The first year is about setting up your sowing equipment to achieve straight lines, so the inter-row sowing can come into play the following year," he says...
