UNFS trial manager and upper-north grower Matt McCallum says trials in SA from 2004 to 2007 showed that wheat-on-wheat sown on the inter-row could increase yield by an average of six per cent compared with on-the-row... "Effective inter-row sowing can boost crop yields by reducing disease, improving plant establishment, creating more effective weed control and establishing a better microclimate for seedlings," he says... "The first year is about setting up your sowing equipment to achieve straight lines, so the inter-row sowing can come into play the following year," he says...
