The target area for this project is located in the N/NE wheatbelt of Western Australia and builds on some of the findings from GRDC project CSP00015 and collaborations with farming groups established as part of that project... The project is designed to impact on different levels within the farming system: the crop, the crop system, and issues at the whole farm level that impinge on crop management decisions... Incorporating a balance of short and long term research questions, this project will improve grower understanding of water use efficiency and the range of management decisions that can alter water use efficiency and productivity in this environment...

Tactics and strategies from the project were evaluated and communicated via peer-reviewed articles, updates and field walks and a comprehensive scoping study report was submitted... The same study showed no gains/improvements in glyphosate efficacy by adding fulvic acid, contrary to the claim being made by a couple of CQ growers...

Paddock-scale trials will demonstrate to growers the suitability and effectiveness of a number of HWSC measures, using commercial equipment to highlight the potential of these management practices to complement large scale trials... "Firstly, we want to focus on how we can change crop maturity and crop physiology to match the requirements to be able to use harvest weed seed techniques," Mr Vague said... "Then, we can go into the paddock, use the big machinery, talk to the famers and actually refine how those techniques are going to be worked into their system, and how beneficial to profit and economics they're going to be at the end of the year."..

The objective of the project was to provide management information to growers and advisers to increase the productivity of wheat and barley in the high rainfall zone (HRZ) of south-eastern Australia... An evaluation of the impacts of the project conducted by the evaluation group Clear Horizon showed that of growers (n=20) who attended the workshops, field and results days, 90% were aware of the factsheets and of those, 80% had changed their management practice as a result, with 95% stating that they would change practice in the future... Results from the project confirm that the basic physiological principles of the ideotype model relating to phase durations, shoot and ear numbers and canopy size are achievable and traits exist within the current germplasm...
