Supporting the Australian Grains Industry through the 2013 Farm Update for.. If Winnipeg futures do come under pressure from the soybean harvest in the US and canola harvest in Canada, we can expect our prices to ease as well... In the short paper, we describe our current work that addresses weed maintenance and crop intelligence...

Driftability of amine formulations The 2,4- D products Surpass and Amicide 625 which were used in the trial are considered to be nonvolatile any drift that is associated with these products will be droplet drift not vapour drift... Fungicides as foliar, seed or fertiliser treatments will play a role in the integrated management of this disease until new varieties with improved resistance become available...

The Lower Eyre Peninsula survey showed most paddocks had internal blackleg infection levels below 10% unlikely to suffer a yield or oil content penalty... Current varieties have a number of resistance genes if blackleg overcomes one resistance gene, other resistance genes remain effective and so the crops should not become completely susceptible... Final grain yield after slashing was similar in all varieties (about 0.8 t/ha average), except CB1206 (0.2 t/ha)...

KEYMESSAGES Incorrect use of phosphine since the 1950s, has led to escalating resistance in stored grain insects which threatens the continued use of phosphine at the farm level... In summary, canola varieties sown 2-3 weeks earlier than normal (early to mid April) can be grazed in winter prior to bud elongation (usually providing 600-800 dse grazing days/ha) and recover with no impact on yield or oil... When running a trial it is important to: 1...

Break crops could hold key to tap soil phosphorus reserves.. University of Adelaide research, funded by the GRDC, on break crops has demonstrated positive effects on phosphorus uptake and yield in subsequent wheat crops... Wheat following a break crop has a greater P uptake and higher yield than continuous wheat rotations...

The rotational benefits of canola were usually restricted to just the first subsequent wheat crop, whereas additional wheat yields can occur for 2 years after a legume... Gross margins achieved on-farm for wheat in 2011 may have been lower than shown in Table 2... The gross margin calculations depicted in Figure 5 assumed that canola yielded 50 % of wheat at that site in that year...

Timely application of N can improve yield and protein of a wheat crop (Hill 2005)... The use of precision sowing to plant into the ridge of the previous season will influence crop behaviour... It is suspected that the application of results from this trial may be limited to the deep sandy earth sand plain soils in the medium rainfall zone...
