Outline Background Methods Results Photos Discussion Questions.. Canopy management is area of the crop canopy 'the management of the green surface in order to optimize crop yield and inputs' (Poole N, 2009)... As seasons are becoming more variable, the management decisions we make in regards to canopy management need be refined...

The research has made a significant contribution to our understanding of the mechanisms underlying these traits, identified novel strategies for further or more rapid improvements, and provides a solid foundation for both further research and better management of defects that result in downgrading of quality prior to harvest.. Annual screening of advanced lines from Australian breeding programs suggests little improvement in sprouting resistance despite breeders having had access to resistant germplasm and quantitative trait loci (QTL) information for a considerable period... Our work in Brachypodium presents a novel opportunity to use an undomesticated wild grass to identify novel sources of high dormancy germplasm...

" Validation and integration of new technology through grower groups in north-west NSW and south-west Queensland grain growing zones.. The Northern Grower Alliance will employ a chief executive officer (part time) to manage resource allocation, corporate governance, information delivery and industry liaison... Two trial agronomists will be employed to work across the three zones to validate, package and extend both new and existing research under the control of local management committees answerable to the CEO and management board...

One or more species of RLN (Root Lesion Nematode, Pratylenchus spp.) occur in at least 60% of WA cropping paddocks... P. thornei occurs rarely; P. neglectus is the most frequent RLN identified in WA, occurring in at least 40% of paddocks; P. teres is found in 10% of paddocks... It is imperative that the species of RLN is correctly identified to enable growers to deploy appropriate crop varieties and species to minimise current and future losses...

One or more species of RLN (Root Lesion Nematode, Pratylenchus spp.) occur in at least 60% of WA cropping paddocks... The principal outputs of this project will be knowledge of wheat varieties which are more resistant to RLN (i.e. limit the multiplication of RLN under a crop) & more tolerant to RLN (i.e. yield loss incurred in a variety due to RLN is minimised)... RLN research in WA will continue to focus on management, principally through rotational recommendations for the deployment of cereal cultivars (& other host crops) with a level of resistance to each RLN that will benefit subsequent crop yields...

GRDC Grains Research Update Coonabarabran, February 2014 most sites achieved those returns within 2 crop seasons after deep P application may at least partly reflect the string of wetter seasonal conditions in recent years, although the results from Jandowae, Capella and Gindie all included dry seasons in at least one of the crops followed... Overall, the performance of the barley grain only varieties showed they are capable of producing around 6 t/ha of dry matter and still yielding between 2.7 and 3.4 t/ha of grain... Overall, the most prevalent virus was BWYV and in some locations more than 90% of symptomatic plants were infected with BWYV (Table 1)...
