It is believed to be the first time that elimination of on-farm grain storage insects with strong phosphine resistance has been scientifically documented and confirmed in Australia and possibly the world... "It is critically important that growers implement best practice when storing grain, particularly in relation to fumigation," said Peter Botta, grain storage specialist for southern New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania... In the current project, control protocols were developed for a Chinese rice weevil strain which is more resistant to phosphine than any Australian strains... Results from fumigation at different concentrations of phosphine confirmed the presence of a very high level of resistance in Chinese rice weevils...
