Dr Preston says growers need to be cautious in chemical use because resistance to Select is on the increase in SA, which is a major concern given the herbicide's importance for providing effective control of ryegrass in pulse and canola break crops...

A reliable and timely crop disease forecast can help growers in managing the disease... With the background, this project is designed to provide grain growers with such tools and/or outputs of the tools as disease risk forecasts to minimise the impact of diseases... The project will deliver two outputs: one, the decision support tools (which forecast disease risk and impact on grain crops) developed from disease epidemiological data, validated in target environments and made available to stakeholders; and two, the current and updated IDM recommendations, support tools and knowledge provided to grain growers in WA, and where applicable in GRDC Southern region, through regular print and electronic publications and in-person extension activities and delivery evaluated against industry needs...

" National Rhizobium Program - Managing rhizobia to maximise N fixation by legumes in agriculture UMU00032 Start Date: 01/07/2008.. The NRP was established in 1998 primarily to make sure growers continued to have access to high quality legume inoculants containing strains of appropriate rhizobia to maximise biological N fixation in pulses and other legumes in crop rotations, and to provide the scientific basis for information and guidance about the practice of legume inoculation...
