The main aims of the project include:- 1) Establishing an accurate, rapid and low cost analytical and sampling procedure for 2-MIB and Geosmin in peanut products, including farmer stock, raw and roasted kernels and peanut paste... The project will lead to better understanding of the measurement, biology and management of off flavour contamination (2-MIB and Geosmin), which are off flavor volatiles in peanuts... Improved understanding of the ecology and biology of causal organisms producing 2-MIB and geosmin, with particular reference to species of Actinomycete, which are known to produce these compounds in other commodities (e.g. hay, cereal grains, sugar cane, wool)...

" Print the page 'Tingoora', a new ultra-early peanut variety promises better yields and a brighter future for peanut growers in traditional dryland growing areas such as the Burnett... Tingoora was developed in a partnership between the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI), the Peanut Company of Australia (PCA) and the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC)... Recent research shows that Tingoora has beneficial functional food characteristics including significantly higher iron, magnesium and phosphorus content compared with other commercially grown varieties It has very early maturity (105-110 days) to avoid end-of-season drought and related aflatoxin risk..
