Clay and spading helps rebuild non-wetting soils.. On 19 July 2010, after about 78mm of rain, the nil treatment (Figure 1) had a lower plant density and went on to yield 0.66t/ha, while the 260t/ha of clay incorporated by spading plot (Figure 2) had a high plant density and went on to yield 1.41t/ha... In 2010 Trevor had electromagnetic surveys (EM38), gamma-ray spectrometry (radiometrics) and deep soil analysis done for measuring and mapping the depth to clay and he used these maps in 2011 to strictly apply clay only where it was needed...

A collaboration was completed between BRI Australia Ltd (formerly the Bread Research Institute) and the Uni-President Enterprises Corporation (UPEC) in Taiwan to assess wheat and flour specifications for instant and dried noodle production... The wheat has a high proportion of the variety Chara and a sample evaluated in the study also performed better than DNS. Most Australian wheat samples tested produced better results than the HRW samples... The study demonstrates that Australian wheat has great potential to produce high quality noodles for China...

Plum Grove held a series of information sessions with growers in WA in late 2013, which included noodle-making demonstrations by staff from Hanamaru restaurants who made udon noodles using flour produced from Australian grain, followed by a batch using flour sourced elsewhere... Japan tries to maintain a 60:40 ANW-APW blend, whereas South Korea routinely accepts a 70:30 APW-ANW blend after it was forced to change from the 60:40 ratio during the 2010 drought in WA...

The project, led by Grain Growers Limited, aims to optimise the use of Australian wheat in the production of premium Chinese noodles and other food products... "Studies conducted under the project found that, in all cases, the higher the proportion of Australian wheat blended with Chinese wheat, the better the quality of Chinese noodles and bread," Grain Growers technical services manager and project leader Ken Quail said... Dr Quail said the Australian wheat for China research project aimed to encourage Australian wheat exports to China by developing and communicating knowledge about Australian wheat specifications for the production of premium wheat products in China...
