Using existing herbicide industry data, independent field experiments in WA, NSW and Victoria, and fully automated on-farm weather stations, the researchers confirmed that clodinafop performance depends on environmental factors such as soil moisture, temperature and water volume... "At York, WA, we found that on eight days out of a 60-day period, spraying at the recommended rate would have resulted in less than 90 per cent control of wild oats, while 150 kilometres away at Merredin only three days in the same period would have resulted in this low level of control," explained John Moore of the Weeds CRC... The researchers point out that each herbicide has a recommended rate of application detailed on the manufacturer's label, but say this is for average conditions, and higher or lower rates within the specified range may be appropriate...
