Many grain growers that have planted crops such as chickpea using a one metre row configuration have turned off every second nozzle on the boom (based on a boom with standard 50cm nozzle spacing) and called this a 50% band for spraying insecticides and fungicides... In theory applying a 50% band would allow them to use half the amount of product that would have been required to spray the entire paddock using a traditional broad-acre boom set-up with every nozzle turned on... Many operators wanting to apply 50% bands to crops such as chickpeas could benefit from utilising narrower nozzle spacing's (such as 25 cm) and using 2 nozzles per row, with the nozzles offset from the plant row and the spray directed at the crop from either side...
