Following their discovery of two genes that control the size of plant seeds, CSIRO researchers are investigating how that knowledge can be used to produce larger seeds across a wide range of crops... In initial tests, where the genes have been "turned down", seed size has been reduced by up to 30 per cent... The challenge now for the CSIRO team led by Dr Abed Chaudhury and Dr Ming Luo is to "turn up" the activity of the genes to try to increase seed size...

In 2012 trials were conducted across northern NSW to investigate the effect of sowing depth, fertiliser rate and retained stubble on the establishment of several hybrid and open pollinated canola varieties... The paper reports only one season's trial data; there are several consistent messages from the trials across the northern region...
