There was no impact on crop vigour or barley establishment and brome grass numbers were reduced by up to 54% by some pre-emergent chemicals... Burning also reduced numbers considerably by 58%, but its practice goes against a lot of No-Till system aims and the Northern and Yorke Natural Resources Management Board (NYNRM) objectives for ground cover... Local farmer case studies have shown that practices such as burning narrow wind-rows, re-seeding, an autumn tickle, growing competitive crops, spot spraying and chemical fallowing are all successful at reducing brome grass numbers...
