Dry matter and grain yield data for each of the four species, wheat, oats, barley and triticale were compared, across varieties for an indication of their respective performances (Table 2)... A total dry matter production was calculated for all varieties with the exception of the varieties Dictator , Genie , Taipan , Amarok and Whistler , which were only trialled in seasons where one dry matter assessment was possible... Urambie , El Alamein , Endeavour and Tennant were the best dual purpose performers of the 40 varieties evaluated in this paper...

A series of trials have been conducted in the slopes area, north of Somerton in the Tamworth district and close to Purlewaugh in the Coonabarabran district over the last seven years, which have included both dual purpose and grain only varieties of wheat, barley and triticale... Two different types of experiments have been reported in this paper, the first was a designated set of dual purpose experiments with the primary objective of evaluating dual purpose varieties for grazing and grain recovery; the second two experiments were targeted at evaluating the performance of grain only varieties under a grazing and grain management system... Urambie and Oxford to be the best of the four barley varieties evaluated in terms of grain yield (Table 2)...
