Using my long term (8 years) average cotton yields, and a calculated sorghum production from the same available moisture, cotton has returned $1815 per cropped hectare, versus sorghum at $1208 per cropped hectare, or a positive result in favour of cotton of $607 per hectare per year... Each farm zone is soil cored around May/ June each year and samples for soil moisture and nutrient availability are taken... Data is taken at the end of the summer crop phase (which is now the start of the winter crop/ fallow phase), and one year later for the same phase, which provides details of nutrient availability for the next crop...
