Although harvest has begun in parts of the southern cropping region, growers are being reminded to not let down their guard with management of insect pests... Dr McDonald says the flightless beetles can become grain contaminants and he encourages growers in pest-prone areas to harvest windrows as soon as possible, preferably through the hottest part of the day which will reduce beetle loads... "The next generation of this pest can be controlled in summer, by removing surface plant material in February to prevent egg-laying and the development of large populations during the next crop growing season," Dr McDonald said...
