FarmLink Research, with the assistance of Murrumbidgee Catchment Management Authority Community Partnerships Program and Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry National Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Initiative have established a network of paired soil moisture capacitance probes and rainfall gauges throughout the region that update live to the FarmLink website... Soil moisture probes have been utilised for a number of years within the irrigation industry and have become critical for irrigation scheduling, crop management and monitoring of weather events... Differences in surface conditions including groundcover, slope, soil compaction, cultivation treatments, plant and stubble architecture, crop residue and localized drainage can have a marked influence on whether rainfall infiltrates the soil or runs off, and at what rate and / or depth this moisture infiltrates the profile...
