DAFWA wheat agronomy project manager Christine Zaicou-Kunesch with Richard Quinlan, of Planfarm, and Woongoondy grower Gerard Rowe at the GRDC-funded RCSN early sowing wheat trial site at Yuna... Ms Shackley said the trials aimed to determine the grain yield and quality responses of a range of slow, mid and fast-maturing winter and spring wheat varieties when sown in mid-April, compared with more conventional WA wheatbelt sowing times of early and late May... "Most varieties trialled had the highest yields when sown in early May, or the yields were not significantly different between mid-April and early May sowings," Ms Shackley said...

Barley Variety and Research Update 2008 Jason Eglinton Barley Program Leader, School of Agriculture, Food & Wine, University of Adelaide, SA The 2007 Season Like many other parts of Australia, Victoria experienced a wide range of production conditions during 2007, largely following a north-south gradient... The rankings of varieties were consistent with previous observations despite the small range in screenings values, with the feed varieties returning the best results including 1.9% for Fleet, 2.9% for Hindmarsh and 3.7% for Keel... The other major difference in disease resistance is the susceptibility of Hindmarsh to spot form of net blotch compared to Keel and Fleet which are rated MR-MS. Keel also has a reputation as being very itchy largely due to its long rachilla hairs (other varieties with long rachilla hair include Clipper, Baudin and Buloke)...

Changes in agronomy can affect yield of chickpeas... In general increasing row spacing may decrease yield of chickpea varieties, even in a dry season... Over a winter pulse area of 125,000 ha, the increase in crop production would be valued at $2.5 to $3 million per annum...

THE RELATIVE PERFORMANCE AND TARGETING RELIABILITY OF SUMMER CROPS (MAIZE & SUNFLOWERS) COMPARED TO GRAIN SORGHUM Take home message.. The objective of the experiments was to: determine the relative performance of maize and sunflower compared to sorghum evaluate if the performance could be made more reliable by using different hybrid maturities or by varying sowing time evaluate if there are alternative opportunities to include sunflower, sorghum and maize in the summer cropping window... At the Moree site a similar average pattern was measured with sunflower yielding 39% of the sorghum yield on a spring plant and maize out yielded sorghum with the exception of the late plant...

GRDC Grains Research Update Coonabarabran, February 2014 that promote yield (provided the crop has access to sufficient soil water available)... Overall, the performance of the barley grain only varieties showed they are capable of producing around 6 t/ha of dry matter and still yielding between 2.7 and 3.4 t/ha of grain... GRDC Grains Research Update Coonabarabran, February 2014 purpose variety the yield performance of Urambie is not unexpected it also had a very high level of screenings at 26% (data not shown) and extremely poor retention which meant it would not have been acceptable into even Feed 2...
