residual control

Catalogue: GRDC Updates
Some populations of the weed are resistant to glyphosate as a result of this herbicide being relied upon repeatedly and almost exclusively for weed control in fallows... An additional range of single and double-knock treatments have been evaluated for fallow control of fleabane across Qld and NSW... Specifics of rate and product have been deleted from the above figure as NONE of the herbicides listed are registered for the control of fleabane...

Options for using more residual herbicides in northern no-till systems.. The list of herbicides that achieved very high levels of control (> 95%) from two replicated experiments were; Dual Gold, Flame, Spinnaker and high registered rates of atrazine (Table 1)... The results presented in this paper originated from various projects funded by GRDC and Industry and Investment NSW...

"Feathertop Rhodes grass can be a very aggressive weed once established but the longevity of seed viability is actually quite brief," he said "Feathertop Rhodes grass may again be a problem following the wet end to harvest in the north this year, as research shows us it is often one of the first weeds to establish on bare ground following rainfall events in spring and summer... Control of established populations of large feathertop Rhodes is difficult, extremely costly and generally incompatible with zero till farming, so the focus must be to to keep it out of farming paddocks wherever possible but be ready to respond to new incursions very rapidly, Mr Daniel said... "Knockdown herbicides can be an effective tool for control results are very dependent on favorable application conditions together with weed stage and size," he said...

Zero till farming and wind-blown seed dispersal, coupled with glyphosate resistance has seen fleabane develop as one of the major broadleaf weeds of northern cropping systems... Effective management of fleabane will require a combination of good agronomy; non-herbicide tactics (e.g. crop competition) and strategic use of herbicides... Various products containing 2,4-D + picloram - Knockdown and residual control in fallow prior to planting winter cereals in mixtures with glyphosate (NSW & Qld only)...
