higher water rate

New research has shown that trifluralin sprayed with higher water rates of about 100L/ha improves the herbicide's effectiveness on paddocks with heavy stubble loads, regardless of the spraying speed... Dr Borger said that in trials conducted at Cunderdin and Wongan Hills in 2011, the amount of annual ryegrass which survived 2.5L/ha of trifluralin decreased from 19 to 14 per cent when the water rate was increased from 50 to 100L/ha... " the results show that trifluralin should still work well in most areas of WA, as long as it is applied correctly, and that cases of reduced effectiveness will usually be due to lower water rates on heavy stubble loads, not resistance," Dr Borger said...

Preliminary results from a trial in the south-east region of South Australia suggests higher water rates (of up to 100 litres per hectare in a trifluralin/Avadex Xtra mix or 150L/ha for other products) can improve the efficacy of pre-emergent herbicides in stubble-retained systems... Early results from the project suggest higher water rates do improve the efficacy of ryegrass control, particularly with Sakura ... We want to look at the differences between herbicide mixes, so we are hoping to conduct the trial again this year as there may have been environmental effects on herbicide efficacy...

" Agribusiness Trial Extension Network.. Trial results have been mixed and there has been little investigation regarding the most efficient form of liquid P in cropping systems... There has also been little investigation of the influence of the water application volume used to apply P on the efficiency of P use in NSW. Work by Landmarks Product Development Group in South Australia, Victoria and Southern NSW has shown that the use of higher water rates to deliver liquid P results.....

if a product has 'curative' properties, often the best result will be achieved by ensuring sprays not only reach the plant parts requiring protection (such as new growth), but also the source of the infection (which may be on lower parts of the plant)... Ways of maintaining spray quality include: using nozzles that produce the same spray quality throughout their pressure range; using systems that maintain droplet size, such as pulse width modulation (for example, the aim command system); and using controller functions such as the minimum hold or lower limit to prevent excessive pressure drops when reducing speed while ensuring overdosing is minimised... often i want to apply a herbicide at the same time as a fungicide or insecticide...
