Vince Logan helped steer Australian grains research onto a new, commercial path... Vince, who retired from the GRDC in May, feels that one of his major achievements was helping to consolidate Australia's wheat breeding programs and helping them move from public institutions to commercially focused private companies in which the GRDC retains a stakeholding on behalf of growers... The outcome, Vince says, is that Australia now has some of the best commercial wheat-breeding programs in the world...

Four Year 11 and 12 agricultural science students from Downlands College, Toowoomba, Queensland, left the classroom behind for a day to attend the Dalby Research Update in March this year... "We selected a group of students from Year 11 and 12 who are interested in agriculture, and thought the Research Update would be a great way to expose them to the opportunities available in the grains area," says science teacher Julie Brophy... The students, all from grain-growing properties around Toowoomba, said they welcomed the opportunity to find out new information to take home to their families...
