Thirty years ago a chance 'meeting of minds' helped spark research into a new crop for Australian agriculture; this 'Ground Cover' matchmaker instalment looks at the start of the lentil industry in Australia and some of the ups and downs at the beginning.. Victorian Mallee grower Chris Kelly says his role in the early days of Australia's lentil industry, and as one of the catalysts for its development, was largely serendipitous - just being at the right place, at the right time... Dr Ali says without growers such as Chris, the industry may have never really got started: "I saw in Chris that the growers were keen, so it gave me an incentive to seek funding," he says...
