Balansa has good levels of hard seed which allow balansa clover to regenerate well after a season of cropping... Mid and late maturing varieties of balansa clover are commercially available, and this range allows the species to be grown in areas receiving between 350 and 800 mm of annual rainfall... Balansa clover grows best in monoculture; good performance with perennial grasses or short-lived ryegrass has been reported...

Paying close attention to the quality of your seed through regular testing, and discarding low germination seed, is one of the easiest ways to get your next season off to the best possible start... Growers should harvest at low moisture and cool temperatures to help ensure the quality of your seed... And at this time of year many farmers may also be thinking about the option of grain storage, and whether it would prove profitable on their farm...

Most of the weed seedbank remains on the soil surface where exposure to light could have an important in uence on the germination behaviour of B. diandrus and B. rigidus... Across the experiment, germinability of B. rigidus from the in-crop habitat was found to be slow and incomplete, and populations of B. rigidus collected from Minlaton and Warooka on the YP showed no germination at all in light/dark conditions at any of the tested time-points (Fig. 1)... In summary, strong differences in light/dark germinability were observed in the collected populations of B. diandrus and B. rigidus right through until the end of the growing season (end of September), with B. rigidus germination never exceeding 40%...

Grain resource can assist growers during harvest.. Information is available to help Western Australian growers effectively manage grain retained for seed that is harvested following wet conditions... The fact sheet emphasises that wet grain is vulnerable to poor germination, low vigour and degradation during storage and handling and that, ideally, growers should retain seed from grain harvested before rain where possible...

H. marinum is widely referred to as sea barley grass around the world, and H. hystrixis known as Mediterranean barley grass... Conditions that favour germination and establishment The seed of common sowthistle can germinate at temperatures in the range 5 C to 35 C. Germination is ultimately determined by moisture availability, as a moist environment is preferred... There is a high proportion of seedling emergence from shallow seed sources, whereas more deeply buried seeds remain dormant and long-lived with a half life estimated at 10 years...
