The aim of the collaborative NSW DPI and Vic DPI project is to 'equally and fairly' provide advanced germplasm containing important new or improved traits to all Australian private canola breeding companies, to ensure that Australian growers have cultivars that allow them to compete effectively on world markets... The pre-breeding outputs from this project are: improved screening methodologies that breeders can incorporate into their programs; new germplasm with identified improved key traits that have a genetic basis; information on the genetic control of those traits; and molecular markers on the DNA of the new germplasm to allow breeders to manipulate the new traits speedily and efficiently in their breeding programs... Populations and Germplasm: The project is working closely with the Canola Molecular Marker Program which is identifying the molecular markers to assist breeders with the selection of the new, key traits...
