Growers need strategy to manage yellow leaf spot.. If the infection is left untreated, a susceptible wheat variety may measure yield losses of up to 65 per cent, Mr Platz said... Fungicide success will be directly related to application number and timeliness, Mr Platz said, with maximum yield and quality benefits obtained by keeping the upper leaves free from disease during grain fill. "..

Reports of growers treating stripe rust in moderately resistant wheat varieties have sparked significant concern from leading cereal pathologist, Dr Steven Simpfendorfer... There have been a number of reports of growers being advised to treat stripe rust and apply a fungicide to wheat varieties that are moderately resistant to stripe rust to "preserve green leaf area"... Dr Simpfendorfer says there is no evidence that spraying moderately resistant varieties for stripe rust will result in any return on input cost for growers. "..

If fungicides are required, make sure they are applied in the early stages of the epidemic... Spot form of net blotch (SFNB) was the dominant foliar disease of barley, causing yield and quality losses where susceptible varieties were grown in infected stubble and left untreated... In addition to mixing or rotation of fungicides an integrated approach to disease control that includes crop rotation and avoidance of susceptible cultivars will reduce inoculum loads, and reduce the likelihood of resistance to fungicides developing...
