By Rebecca Thyer The push to lift productivity within the grains industry, after nearly half a decade of drought, remains an industry-wide priority and has been raised at several key conferences as being a central goal of research, development and extension (RD&E)... The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE) annual Outlook conference heard that productivity growth had slowed during the past decade, with ABARE chief economist Dr Terry Sheales directly linking a turnaround in productivity with industry sustainability... This year the Minister also spoke about productivity in his opening address at ABARE's Outlook conference, flagging an increased onus on rural research and development corporations (RDCs) to look at the research needs of an industry's entire value chain...
