The focus for the now named Australian Herbicide Resistance Initiative (AHRI) will continue to be on strategic and applied research aimed at minimising the adverse impacts of herbicide resistance and weed problems on Australian cropping... To achieve the national focus, there will be collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Food in Western Australia, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) in Queensland and the Universities of Melbourne and Adelaide... The new research program extends from agronomic techniques for the management of crop weeds through to fundamental research on the molecular and genetic factors determining herbicide resistance evolution...

In the short stubble-no chaff plots (where stubble biomass was lowest), water rate did not have a large impact on annual ryegrass control, although Sakura was more effective at the high water rate... In the short stubble-chaff plots, all herbicides were more effective at the high water rate...

Widespread use of glyphosate in both agricultural and non-agricultural sectors has caused glyphosate resistance in this weed... Although residual herbicides will limit re-cropping options and will not provide complete control, they are a key part of successful fallow management.. The experiment showed that some of these populations were still only suppressed when sprayed with 12.8_L/ha... The most recent survey has focused on non-cropping situations with a large number of resistant populations found on roadsides and railway lines etc where glyphosate alone has been the principal weed management tool employed...

Herbicide resistance opportunity knocks for WA growers.. Following significant rainfall in recent weeks, Western Australian growers have a golden opportunity to find out if they have glyphosate resistance in their paddocks, according to the Australian Glyphosate Sustainability Working Group (AGSWG)...
