"The focus at the moment is more about making good variety choices, making sure you've got the rotations right, being prepared for a season where we could have minimal stored moisture, getting the seeding right, getting the timing of it right and making sure we've got the rotations right so that weeds don't come up to be a major issue for us," Mr Shannon said... "GRDC is very supportive of only growing those varieties which have some good rust resistance, so (we are) relying on the genetic ability of the plants to deal with rust - rather than using fungicide sprays to always deal with it - and trying to reduce input costs for growers," Mr Shannon said...

The digital age is providing growers with easy access to resources and support tools in their quest to lift efficiency and productivity, according to the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC)... GRDC's Manager of Delivery Platforms, Tom McCue, says technology is rapidly changing and making it possible for growers and advisers to capture farm information in real time and share this information immediately with a wide network... Mr McCue said the GRDC was converting some of its research, development and extension outputs into easy-to-use and accessible applications - such as Weed ID and Insect ID apps - and more decision-support tools are planned for the future...

The region's grains advisers will go back to school in August at insect pest workshops supported by the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC)... The one-day workshop is a new initiative and aims to help advisers explore more effective and sustainable strategies for managing insect pests in summer and winter grain crops... Dow AgroSciences and Syngenta have provided additional support for the workshops which will take place at Dalby, Queensland on 13 August and Moree, NSW on 15 August...
