While the focus was on developing generic models to address questions related to when to attempt eradication and when to contain and mitigate, the focus was on developing decision support tools to achieve optimal management strategies for controlling the parasitic weed branched broomrape ( Orobanche ramosa )... We applied the decision tool to branched broomrape to choose between alternative management strategies and it was parameterised by collaborating with the branched broomrape eradication team... The research provides a move forward in decision theory techniques for ecological systems as previous methods have not dealt with the issue of partially observable states adequately...

CropMate proves the grain growers' friend.. A Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC)-funded online decision support tool - CropMate - is helping grain growers make sense of weather and climate information... "The CropMate tool is an example of how innovative research can be used to support grain grower decision making by incorporating research data, particularly around fertiliser use, variety performance, water use efficiency and sowing time, agronomic knowledge and climate information into the decision support tool," Professor Herridge said...

CropMate has been developed by Industry & Investment NSW using data from the Bureau of Meteorology and the QCCCE (Queensland Climate Change Centre of Excellence)... With inputs of commodity prices and growing costs, he compares a gross margins for wheat, durum, barley, canola, chickpea and faba beans that have been weighted according to the latest seasonal forecasts... 4. Tracking the season pages presents observations for the month, comparisons of accumulated rainfall, decision tool for nitrogen topdressing, a calculator to compare the outcome when salvaging crops for hay, silage or grazing and a top dressing decision tool...

A reliable and timely crop disease forecast can help growers in managing the disease... With the background, this project is designed to provide grain growers with such tools and/or outputs of the tools as disease risk forecasts to minimise the impact of diseases... The project will deliver two outputs: one, the decision support tools (which forecast disease risk and impact on grain crops) developed from disease epidemiological data, validated in target environments and made available to stakeholders; and two, the current and updated IDM recommendations, support tools and knowledge provided to grain growers in WA, and where applicable in GRDC Southern region, through regular print and electronic publications and in-person extension activities and delivery evaluated against industry needs...

The Southern Queensland Farming Systems (SQFS) project has demonstrated that growers and advisers had a) at least three distinct planting strategies when planting on marginal moisture and b) a low level of understanding of the potential economic and agronomic implications of these three strategies... Future projects should attempt to actively incorporate a range of private and public sector segments of the farming RD&E supply chains on their management committees and consequent portfolio of projects... Starter P rates are being reduced to optimise P use efficiency (PUE), and fluids are being evaluated as a way of further improving starter PUE...
