severe damage

The ability of canola to compensate for early aphid damage supports the increased use of natural enemies to control aphid outbreaks.. "Canola has an excellent capacity to compensate for crop damage, meaning current spray thresholds of around 10 per cent infestation of racemes (flower clusters) may be more stringent than necessary," says Dr Paul Grundy, senior research scientist at the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries... While the physical damage inflicted during these experiments is different to an actual aphid infestation, the results suggest that canola has an excellent capacity to compensate for crop damage...

Southern cropping region grain growers dealing with and preparing for further significant mouse damage leading up to grain fill are being supported in their efforts by the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC)... An updated GRDC fact sheet on mouse control is being direct mailed to growers as part of a national thrust to combat what is expected to be a continuation of Australia's worst mouse plague in living memory... Carryover populations from last autumn have the potential to cause severe damage to crops at flowering and seed set and so monitoring for damage over the next month will be critical and baiting is advised as soon as crop damage is noticed...

".. Carryover populations of mice from autumn have the potential to cause severe damage to crops at flowering and seed set and so monitoring for damage and applying bait where necessary is imperative."..
