Preliminary calculations suggest that for mirids, sweep net counts can be converted to beat cloth equivalents per square metre by dividing them by 2.2, provided the following protocols are used: Take 20 sweeps in 20 metres, with each sweep passing through one (1) metre of crop... It is essential that we start thinking about heliothis management in a farming systems context, looking closely at managing populations in all crops during the year...

Note the banded antennae - the antennae of the green mird nymph are reddish brown on the tips only... Mirids are known to feed on cotton, lucerne, mungbeans, navy beans, peanut and soybeans... The primary movement of mirids into summer crops occurs during November as alternative host plants within the vicinity of cotton crops tend to dry off and insects seek a fresh food source...
