The camera-based detection system being trialled at a wheat National Variety Trials at Kingsthorpe near Toowoomba, Queensland... Funded through the GRDC's Innovation Investment program, the system was developed by the University of Southern Queensland's National Centre for Engineering in Agriculture (NCEA), and was used in the field for the first time in 2014... " the system has potential to reduce labour requirements and travel costs associated with manual inspection of grain variety trials, and improve timeliness and accuracy of growth stage identification," she says...

Chickpea: Sourcing High Quality Seed (PDF, 521 kB).. When Ascochyta blight is found in a crop of Flipper, Yorker, Jimbour, Kyabra etc, a foliar application of a registered fungicide should be made immediately prior to the next likely rain event... Assess the risk of phytophthora root rot prior to planting, based on previous paddock history, and select a variety with some resistance (Yorker, PBA HatTrick, Flipper, Jimbour, Kyabra and Moti have useful resistance) if there is any likelihood of this disease...

Nutrition Issues for 2011 Bruce Ramsey, AgriTech Crop Research, Wagga Wagga After a decade of seasons; peppered with drought and heart breaking "bob tail" springs, finally we have now all experienced a wet season... The wet season in 2010 and the 2011 summer may have leached sulphur down the profile and out of the root zone... Trace elements are best identified through plant tissue analysis and addressed ...

Farming systems which minimise the movement of soil and water will also minimise the loss of nutrients and pesticides... Overall, the only large difference was the lower Zn when superphosphate was applied... In summary, Mike has found a strategy to help him interpret his yield maps - and is now taking the same approach to other paddocks to maximise fertiliser savings...

Dry weight response of crops to increasing P levels with and without mycorrhizal fungi in the soil... Unlike saprobic soil fungi, which colonise and break down organic matter and do not require a host plant in the system to complete their lifecycle, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), the type found in cropping systems, do require the presence of a host to reproduce and are called obligate symbionts... Having adequate populations of mycorrhizal fungi present in soils can be beneficial and in some cases essential for crop growth...
