While the approach has enabled population structure to be accounted for, it perhaps imposes a limitation on the effectiveness of using this approach in cereals within breeding programs... The result of the LD study was to confirm that significant levels of LD could be detected within germplasm collections, and that this LD extended over sufficient distance that it could be effectively assayed using currently available marker technologies such as SSRs and DArT...
