" Attachment DAW00155: Do non-wetting soils cause problems for soil test based fertiliser recommendations Bill Bowden, Department of Agriculture, WA.. The future project should determine the best ways of using the reserves of soil immobile nutrients more effectively and/or how growers can adjust their fertiliser management strategies to cope with the problem... We applied the wetting agent after seeding so that establishment effects would not be confused with soil nutrient effects...

Drying climate turns research spotlight onto heavy soils.. While a drying climate and poor crop yields have caused some growers to consign the worst of the soil type to the too-hard basket, preliminary success with a mulching trial aimed at conserving soil moisture has spurred Ian and members of his local grower group to investigate whether Morrell soil can be better managed... Ian says in a good year (200mm growing-season rainfall) Morrell soil can be profitable because its good fertility makes it cheaper to crop and manage than the sandier, acidic soils in the region. "..

Road trip shares soil water repellence solutions.. The aim of the tours and booklet was to highlight the systems being used by growers across WA and strategies being investigated through research trials to alleviate problems associated with water-repellent soils... Soil-repellence researchers Dr Margaret Roper, from CSIRO, and Dr Stephen Davies, from DAFWA, say the sites visited on the tours and the grower case studies included in the RCSN-SEPWA booklet demonstrate that water-repellent soils can be successfully managed by using many, often completely different, options - ranging from minimum soil disturbance to mouldboard ploughing...
