Recent work has shown nitrate adsorption to anion exchange sites slows nitrate leaching in soils with pH dependent positive charge... To achieve the objective, soil from long-term field trials will be analysed for carbon (C), nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) in measureable fractions and information obtained will be used to test model predictions using crop N & P uptake plus yield collected in long-term trials... The project output will include a revised soil module in the crop systems model, APSIM, based on measureable fractions of organic matter and knowledge of ratios of carbon (C), nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) in these fractions...
